I'm back.

Awakening Beauty

In fairytale land, I've been told, sleep may be the key to happiness.
Is it the poignancy of dreams?
...the need for a good night's rest preceding an early morning's journey through the witch's woods?
...the essential duty of the princess to maintain at all times a gloriously radiant complexion?

Well, I happen to be deeply involved in a love affair with strong coffee.. and I like the dark.

Oh, anyway...without divulging too much explicit information at this very moment, I would like to express ever so subtly my state of sheer elation and endless gratitude for my current situation.

I've met a pirate.. a pirate with a palette.

I've been flogged (and liked it)

So I subjected myself to Ray Rhamey's flogometer sometime in November, and - to my utter wonderment - he loved this story. Thinks I should expand it. A lot.

I jump up and down for a while, then shrink into my cozy shell.

But I'm back, and I'm in contact with Angel Dominguez - which also makes me jump up and down. We'll see what happens in the coming months...

And in the meantime...

...I'll be dealing with baby birds, missing socks, haunted hotels, the awkwardandsometimespainful middle-school years, and a variety of somewhat common hurdles over which small people must often leap.

Strong like bull

Thanks to a brutal critique by one M.D., I now have enough fuel to power up the manuscript by about 10-15 pages. I'm on it.

...seven potato more

That's right, 7/7 rejections now. But considering the statistics, I shouldn't feel all that bad...especially since one of the seven actually read it a second time after suggesting I expand it a bit. And he loved the writing..enough to call it "beautiful" in three separate letters, in fact. (*blush*) It's just not "strong" enough for publication, he said.

So, back to the beginning.

Someone commented on a message board that they're impressed an agent even looked at it, that usually manuscripts of that length go straight to a publisher. "That length," meaning the awkward 'tweener stage of 1K-8K words.

But I want an agent, damn it! I can't handle the stress of dealing with the business side of things. And it would also be nice to have a fighting chance with the Big Houses.

I've got to go figure this out. Wish me luck...

One potato, two potato...

Okay, so I finish one book and now I have kids' stories coming out my ..ears. I can't stop. I suppose this is quite a very good thing.
